郑州轻工业大学机电工程学院始建于1977年，是郑州轻工业大学最早的院系之一。前身为郑州轻工业学院机电系，1984年更名为机械工程系，1997年更名为机电科学与工程系，2004年成立机电工程学院。学院下设机械制造系、机械设计系、机械电子工程系、轻工机械系、测控技术与仪器系、车辆工程系、智能制造工程系等七个系，工程力学及材料中心、工程图学中心、实验实践教学中心等三个中心。

学院拥有机械设计制造及其自动化、测控技术与仪器、车辆工程、智能制造工程4个本科专业，其中机械设计制造及其自动化专业为国家级一流专业建设点和省级特色专业，2016年获批河南省“专业综合改革试点”项目，2018年通过中国工程教育专业认证；拥有机械工程河南省一级重点学科，机械工程一级硕士学位授权点，机械工程专业硕士学位授权点；拥有机械设计及理论、机械制造及其自动化2个省级特聘教授设岗学科；2020年获批河南省特色学科群。

Founded in 1977, the College of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering of Zhengzhou University of Light Industry is one of the earliest departments of Zhengzhou University of Light Industry. Formerly known as the Mechanical and Electrical Department of Zhengzhou Institute of Light Industry, it was renamed as the Department of Mechanical Engineering in 1984, the Department of Mechanical and Electrical Science and Engineering in 1997, and the College of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering was established in 2004. The college consists of seven departments, including the Department of Mechanical Manufacturing, the Department of Mechanical Design, the Department of Mechanical and Electronic Engineering, the Department of Light Industry Machinery, the Department of Measurement and Control Technology and Instrumentation, the Department of Vehicle Engineering, the Department of Intelligent Manufacturing Engineering, and three centers, including the Engineering Mechanics and Materials Center, the Engineering Graphics Center, and the Experimental Practice Teaching Center.

The college has four undergraduate majors, namely, mechanical design and manufacturing and its automation, measurement and control technology and instrument, vehicle engineering, and intelligent manufacturing engineering. Among them, the mechanical design and manufacturing and its automation major is a national first-class professional construction point and a provincial characteristic major. In 2016, the college was approved as a pilot project of "comprehensive reform of specialty" in Henan Province, and in 2018, it passed the certification of China's engineering education specialty; It has the first level key discipline of mechanical engineering in Henan Province, the first level master's degree authorization point of mechanical engineering, and the master's degree authorization point of mechanical engineering specialty; It has 2 provincial-level distinguished professors in the fields of mechanical design and theory, mechanical manufacturing and automation; In 2020, it will be approved as a characteristic discipline group of Henan Province.
